Public Lands Belong To You!

The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) is a Federal Government Agency that cares for more than 245 Million acres of land. Most of these lands are in the Western part of the United States. These lands are called Public Lands and they belong to all Americans, including you! If you put all these lands together that are almost equal in area to all the land in the States of California and Texas.

Public lands are places to play and explore! You can hike, camp, off-road, watch wildlife and do many other things you can follow the routes traveled by pioneers, or learn about lands used by the Native Americans. Public lands are habitats — places with food, water, and shelter needed for many plants and animals. They offer space for wild horses and burros to roam and places for cattle and sheep to graze. They supply minerals (stone and gravel) that people need for building and they provide energy power (geothermal, wind, and solar) people enjoy the big open spaces on public lands. We hope you will get outside and enjoy them too!

This mural is dedicated to David Brockhurst. He discovered the desert and made it his home. He was one of us, Main Street Murals.
