Marine Corps Logistics Base

The Barstow Base has been in continuous use since December 1942.

The mission is to rebuild and repair ground combat and combat support equipment; to enable operational readiness through infrastructure, logistics and service to support the Marine Corps, Army and other Government components. During the Vietnam conflict the repair facility at the Yermo Annex ran 24/7. It represented teamwork, responsiveness and continuous improvement. The Nebo Annex functions as the main facility for administration, storage, and recreation activities, shopping and housing.

The MCLB is also home to the only mounted color guard in the Marine Corps. It was founded in 1967 and represents the Marine Corps nation wide.

On the land, at sea or in the air, the Marine Corps ever vigilent.

Ft. Irwin National Training Center

The Training Center serves as the Army’s premier training center. The area has a rich history dating to the Pinta Indians, Father Graces, Jedidiah Smith, Capt. John Fremont, and Kit Carson. The Old Spanish Trail goes through the reservation and the area was patrolled by the Mormon Battalion. President Franklin D. Roosevelt established the Mojave Anti-Aircraft Range in 1940 in the area of Ft. Irwin. It was renamed in 1942 to Camp Irwin, in honor of Major General George Leroy Irwin. Through the years it has been deactivated and activated several times. It has been the National Training Center since 1979, was activated in 1980 and went on active duty status in 1981. The mission is to conduct tough realistic land operations with unified action partners to prepare brigade combat teams and other units for combat while taking care of soldiers, civilians and families.
